SR swimmer sets record

Heston Suorsa breaks mark in 100 backstroke

Heston Suorsa set a Slippery Rock boys record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.01 seconds in the Rockets' 70-42 victory over Rocky Grove on Thursday.

Suorsa also claimed first place in the 200 individual medley.

Charlee Caldwell won the 200 IM and 500 freestyle to help Slippery Rock's girls crush the Orioles, 105-17.

Girls Basketball

Slippery Rock's 57-40 victory at the Rock Box against General McLane clinched for the Rockets at least a share of the region title.

Hallie Raabe sparked Slippery Rock (15-4, 10-1) with 17 points, Emma McDermott added 15, Anna Kadlubek 10 and Maryann Ackerman chipped in nine points.

CWNC 42, Knoch 31 — Kylee Lewandowski's 16 points led the Trojanettes.

Dani Short added 10 points for CWNC. Emily Fraser and Casey Kretzer both scored nine points to pace Knoch.

Seneca Valley clobbered District 12 champion Archbishop Wood, 58-9, at the PIAA Class AAA team tournament in Hershey. The Raiders will face Spring-Ford in the quarterfinals Friday.

No other details were available.

Armstrong 36, Butler 33 — All three of Butler's seniors won — Christian Sequete (182) and Rob Hays (170) by fall and Justin Stewart by decision — but the Golden Tornado fell to 4-5 with this loss on Senior Recognition Night.

Butler wrestles at Upper St. Clair Friday.

Bowling

Nicole Nebel rolled a 576 series with a high game of 210 as the Butler girls bowling team completed a perfect regular season with a 7-0 win over North Allegheny.

The Golden Tornado are 10-0.

Ashley McCue had a 531 series.

The Butler boys suffered their first loss since December of 2015 with a 7-0 setback to the Tigers.

Jordan Reges led the Golden Tornado with a 647 series and a high game of 245.

Chris Huff added a 590 series with a high game of 219.

Mars sweeps Freeport — The Mars boys and girls swimming teams each came up with 7-0 wins over Freeport.

Alina Nagel rolled a 433 series with a high game of 179 to pace the Planets' girls.

Caitlyn Crissman and Amber Cepec each rolled 158 games for Freeport.

Nick Weber turned in a 453 series for Mars. He rolled three consecutive 151 games.

Mark Livingston had a 626 series and a high game of 234 for the Yellowjackets.
