Karenbauer breaks Knoch swim record

Sets mark in 500 freestyle

Knoch senior Matt Karenbauer broke the school record in the boys 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4 minutes, 55.09 seconds in a meet against Freeport Tuesday night.

Knoch's boys defeated the Yellowjackets 120-41 while the girls downed Freeport 121-54.

The Knights will compete against C.W. North Catholic Feb. 15.

Boys Basketball

Robby Carmody scored 33 points and Mars clinched at least a share of the WPIAL Section 2-5A title with a 69-53 win over Chartiers Valley Tuesday night.

Cade Hetzler and Michael Carmody each added 13 for the Planets (16-4, 10-1).

Mars leads Moon by a game in the section standings with one more league game on the schedule for both teams.

If the Planets beat Hampton Friday, they will win the section title outright.

The Butler rifle team finished third at the WPIAL team championships with a score of 799-60x.

Hempfield won the WPIAL title with a score of 800-54x.

Private Schools

Michaella Roth scored 16 points, on four 3-pointers, as First Baptist downed Evangel Heights, 35-34.

Alexis Barnhard added 10 points and 15 rebounds.
