SRU men win in OT

Slippery Rock University's men's basketball team outscored visiting Seton Hill 11-5 in overtime to defeat the Griffins, 74-68 Saturday afternoon, clinching a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoff berth in the process.

Senior guard Khyree Wooten blocked a Griffins' shot attempt early in overtime, then scored a bucket at the other end to give The Rock a lead it would not relinquish.

SRU (18-5, 12-5) trailed almost the entire length of regulation, including 61-54 with 3:13 left in the second half, before Gabe Mack and Bruce Spruell led the comeback to force overtime.

SRU's Micah Till scored 15 points and grabbed 27 boards. Spruell scored a game-high 23 points and Wooten scored 14.

Spencer Casson led three Griffins (8-14, 5-12) in double digits, netting 16.

Seton Hill 75, SRU (women) 65 — A 22-11 deficit in the third quarter doomed SRU in a home loss to Seton Hill.

In the other three quarters, The Rock edged the Griffins (17-6, 12-5) 54-53, but dropped to 10-12 overall and 8-9 in PSAC play.

Seton Hill's 18-4 spurt during a six-minute stretch of the third erased a 43-37 SRU advantage.

Sophomore guard Madison Johnson paced SRU with 18 points, Karns City product LeeAnn Gibson had 13 points and seven rebounds, Brooke Hinderliter eight points and a team-leading 11 rebounds.

Seton Hill's Cheyenne Trest led all scorers with 22 points. Both SRU teams travel to Erie Wednesday to battle Mercyhurst.

Butler County Community College (women) 79, Penn Highlands 54 — Mackenzie Craig paced the Pioneers (5-16, 3-2) with 37 points and 31 rebounds. Carly Burdett added 28 points and 13 boards, Lydia Roth 12 points and 10 assists.

Penn Highlands 96, BC3 72 — Brendan Record scored 18 points for the Pioneers (3-21, 2-7) while Joel Stutz had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jace Stutz scored 12 points and Josh Knochel 11.
