Seneca Valley wins wild one

Raiders rally from 23-5 down to beat P-R

Chris Hart and David Ritchie each scored 17 points as the Seneca Valley boys basketball team rallied in the second half to defeat Pine-Richland, 63-61, Friday night.

The Raiders trailed 23-5 after the first quarter, 37-29 at the half and 48-45 after three quarters before surging ahead late in the fourth.

“We just kept chipping away,” SV coach Victor Giannotta said.

Jake Bunofsky sank a free throw with 12 seconds left to break a 61-61 deadlock with 12 seconds left. Hart stole a Rams;' pass, was fouled, and sank one of two free throws with three seconds to play.

A desperation 60-foot shot at the buzzer didn't come close as the Raiders won on P-R's court for the second straight season.

Marcus Might added 12 points and Bunofsky scored all nine of his points in the second half to spur the victory.

The win continued a late-season playoff push for the Raiders (12-7, 5-5), who are holding on to the fourth and final postseason berth in Section 1-6A.

The loss denied Pine-Richland a first-place tie in the section and dropped the Rams (7-3 in section play) a game behind Butler and Central Catholic.
