Carmody scores 2,000th for Mars

Planets defeat Sewickley, 67-48

Robby Carmody scored 32 points and Mars got off to a quick start Sunday in defeating Sewickley Academy, 67-48, at Montour.

Carmody scored his 2,000th career point in the game.

Cade Hetzler added 12 points and Andrew Recchia 10 for the Planets. Mars had a 25-11 lead after one quarter and a 41-23 halftime edge.

Girls Basketball

Emma Bair tallied 15 points, seven rebounds and five blocks Saturday as Moniteau defeated Clarion-Limestone, 53-36.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Warriors (10-7). Moniteau had a 16-0 lead after the first quarter.

Kristen Auvil scored 10 points and had seven rebounds, Izzy Bair netted 10 points, Aslyn Pry six steals.

Alexis Barnhart tallied 14 points, 16 rebounds and 10 steals to lead the First Baptist Christian girls basketball team to a 61-25 win over Harvest Baptist.

Michaella Roth scored 24 points, Nicole Hartman 10 points and 19 rebounds.

Indoor Track

Noah Beveridge won the 3,000-meter event and the Golden Tornado took first places in a pair of relays during the Tri-State Track Coaches Association indoor meet Friday night at Edinboro University.

Beveridge ran the 3,000 in eight minutes, 44.75 seconds. That ranks him No. 2 in the state in that event and qualifies him for the Pennsylvania Indoor State Championships.

Butler's boys 4x400 meter relay team of Cade Gratzmiller, Rob Hays, Ryan Marcella and Jake Wolfrum took first place, as did the Tornado girls 4x400 relay unit of Gabrielle Boden, Chesna Tomko, Anna Baxter and Maddie Tonini.
