Hegedus nets 24 in KC win

Mars girls rally to defeat P-R

Emily Hegedus scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Wednesday night as the Karns City girls basketball team rolled to a 52-27 win over Forest Area at home.

Livia Andreassi added 12 points and 10 boards, Alyssa Stitt 11 points for the Gremlins (7-5).

Karns City hosts Knoch Tuesday night.

Mars trailed by two entering the final quarter before outscoring the Rams 23-9 in the final eight minutes.

Jalen Brown scored 20 points, Isiah Bauman 19 and Ben Beale 18. Aiden Skradski made his first varsity start and scored 16 points, including four treys. Damon Shiring added 10.

Aaron Drake had 14 points and seven assists, but the First Baptist Christian School boys basketball team dropped a 52-32 decision to Neighborhood Academy Tuesday night.

Ben Drake had 11 points and nine rebounds.

In recent action, FBC defeated Plants & Pillars 73-68 in overtime.

Derek Butterworth had 23 points, Ben Drake 16 points and 11 rebounds, Nick Flatt and Nate Errington 11 points each.

Flatt added 13 rebounds, Aaron Drake 10 points and eight assists.

Swimming

Knoch dropped a pair of meets to Shady Side Tuesday. The girls (1-4, 1-1) lost 89-81 while the boys (0-5, 0-2) took an 87-81 defeat.

The Knights compete at Northgate Thursday. Knoch winners against Shady Side follow:

Bowling

Butler swept Mars at Family Bowlaway, winning both matches 7-0. The Golden Tornado boys won 2,737-1,756, the girls by a 2,304-1,868 count.

Jordan Reges led Butler’s boys with a 582 series, a high game of 212. Cole Thrash rolled a 572 series, Trey Barto a 253 game. Zach Brandl led Mars with a 144 game and 413 series.

Ashley McCue led the Tornado girls with a 490 series. Alayna Nagel paced Mars with a 439 series and 168 game. Paige Schindler added a 422 series.

Butler’s final home match is next Wednesday against Seneca Valley. It will be Senior Night for the Golden Tornado.

In other action:

Freeport’s boys improved to 4-3 on the season with a 7-0 win over Seneca Valley. Mark Livingston had a 206 game and 572 series, Issiac Spencer a 181 game and Seth Change a 157.

The Yellowjacket girls (1-6) got their first victory, 4-3, as Caitylyn Crissman rolled a 130 game and 350 series. Amber Cetec rolled a 164 game for the Freeport junior varsity.

Freeport travels to Shaler next Wednesday.
