City man pleads guilty in broken jaw case

Austin Reges

A Butler man pleaded guilty in county court on Wednesday after being charged with breaking another man's jaw.

Austin J. Reges, 24, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor disorderly conduct counts before Judge William Shaffer.

The plea agreement calls for two years of probation, as well as the payment of fines and restitution, when he is sentenced on Feb. 8.

Reges was initially charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment after an incident on Eau Claire Road on March 3.

The second disorderly conduct charge to which he pleaded was later added. The remaining charges will be dismissed as part of the plea.

State police filed the charges after it was reported that Reges accused his former friend, David Hindman of Venango Township, of cheating with Reges' girlfriend, according to court documents.

Hindman said when he turned away, Reges punched him in the back of the jaw. Reges wanted to fight more, police said, but the badly injured Hindman fled.

Hindman's jaw needed to be wired shut after receiving treatment at more than one hospital for his facial injury, police said.
