Man pleads to stealing weapons

A Swissvale man pleaded guilty in county court on Wednesday to burglarizing a home and stealing several firearms.

Dayvon V. Williams, 22, pleaded guilty to felony theft before Judge William Shaffer.

The plea agreement calls for a sentence of 11½ to 23 months in Butler County Prison, followed by probation. He will also be ordered to undergo probation following the expiration of his parole and pay fines, court costs and restitution.

He is scheduled for sentencing on Feb. 20.

Williams was initially charged with two counts of felony burglary, criminal trespass, and theft, as well as two counts of misdemeanor criminal mischief and one count of loitering and prowling at nighttime after an incident at 105 Weaver Lane in Slippery Rock Township on Aug. 16, 2016.

According to police, Williams broke a window to get into a garage at around 10 p.m. Wednesday. He also damaged a metal exterior door trying to enter the garage.

Police said Williams tried but failed to steal a dirt bike from the garage. He then broke into the house and stole numerous firearms, including rifles and shotguns, as well as several hunting bows with accessories and a black bag valued at more than $3,700, according to police.

Williams was later caught by the Homestead Police Department with the stolen items, with the exception of a .22-caliber rifle.
