Woman rescued from SUV

One-vehicle accident Wednesday morning injures woman in Slippery Rock Township.

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Winter weather may have caused another traffic accident Wednesday morning, when a woman lost control of her sport utility vehicle and crashed into a utility pole along Route 173 south of Fox's Pizza in the township.

Slippery Rock volunteer firefighters had to rescue the woman, who was unable to get out of the vehicle on her own, following the accident about 7:30 a.m. She was placed on a backboard and taken by Slippery Rock Ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital with apparent minor injuries.

State police are investigating. An accident report was not immediately available.

Emergency crews said the snow-covered road was possibly a factor in the wreck, which sheared off the West Penn Power pole. The pole was still standing against other poles, authorities said.

West Penn Power officials were subsequently notified and they were to send a crew to replace the pole.

Authorities said the woman's vehicle sustained moderate front-end damage and had to be towed.
