Use snowshoes, learn sugaring

BRADY TWP — Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, has the following opportunities:

8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 10, Home Sweet Home: Backyard Maple Sugaring will offer everything from how to choose an appropriate tree through tapping, collecting and evaporating maple sap. The program is free with equipment available to purchase. The registration deadline is Feb. 7. Register at events.dcnr.pa.gov or call the center at 724-794-6011.

When enough snow covers the trails, a limited number of snowshoes will be available for use within the park. The center will be open on a special basis on snowy Saturdays, as well as during regular Monday-to-Friday business days, with staff on hand to loan equipment and assist borrowers. Snowshoes will be available on a first-come-first-served basis between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. A valid driver’s license or identification card must be provided to borrow snowshoes. For more information or to confirm snow conditions, call the center at 724-794-6011. To find out if the center will be open on a Saturday, call before 4 p.m. on the prior Friday.
