Weather a factor in Slippery Rock wreck

Winter weather caused another accident this morning when a woman lost control of her sport utility vehicle and crashed into a utility pole along Route 173 south of Fox's Pizza in Slippery Rock Township.

Slippery Rock volunteer firefighters had to rescue the middle-aged woman, who was unable to get out of the vehicle on her own following the accident about 7:30 a.m. She was placed on a backboard and taken by Slippery Rock Ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital with apparent minor injuries. State police are investigating but an accident report was not immediately available.

Emergency crews said the road was snow-covered and possibly was a factor in the wreck, which sheared off a nearby West Penn Power pole. The pole was still standing against other poles, authorities said. West Penn Power officials were notified. The woman's vehicle sustained moderate front-end damage and had to be towed.
