Rock men's hoops roll to victory

Women also win convincingly

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first three minutes and never trailed Saturday in posting an 82-75 win over Mansfield at Morrow Field House.

The victory was the 12th in 13 games for The Rock (14-3, 8-3), which moved into sole possession of second place in the PSAC West.

Micah Till scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds for SRU while Brandon Simmons had 18 points, 18 rebounds and three blocked shots. The two forwards controlled play inside.

Bruce Spruell netted 15 points and three assists, Merdic Green 11 points and Aaron McDonald a game-high seven assists.

Cedric Powell had 19 points and Malik Carter 18 for Mansfield (4-10, 3-8).

SRU (women) 84, Mansfield 59 — Six players scored in double figures as The Rock (9-7, 7-4) cruised to victory.

SRU sank a season-high 12 3-pointers and forced 20 Mansfield turnovers. The Mounties slipped to 5-12, 3-8.

Krista Pietropola came off the bench to score 12 points and grab 13 rebounds. She sank three treys as well.

Sierra Fordham scored a career-high 15 points, Morgan Henderson 13, Skyla O’Connor 12. Brooke Hinderliter had 10 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Madison Johnson had 10 points and three steals.

Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson had seven points and four assists.

Both SRU teams return to action Wednesday, traveling to Pitt-Johnstown.
