Roads snow-covered Monday night

The state Department of Transportation has a full crew of 40 trucks out plowing the road tonight in Butler County.

The roads were snow covered but passable as of 8:15 p.m., said Bruce Hartman, of District 10.

With the weather forecast calling for snow throughout the night, the plows will remain hard at work until the morning. Crews are hoping to get roads in good shape for school buses and morning commuters, Hartman said.

“It might get a little lighter later on, but right now it's pretty steady,” Hartman said about the snow.

Snow started falling in the county around 3:30 p.m. and fire and police units have been dispatched to several accidents, including one in Muddycreek Township and one in Parker Township.

The Meridian Road bridge in Renfrew remains closed after flooding Friday, but all other roads were open Monday night.

The National Weather service was predicting 1 to 3 inches of snow overnight.
