Firefighters make quick work of duplex fire

Butler firefighters quickly extinguished a fire at a Morton Avenue duplex this morning.

No one was home and no one was injured in the fire about 11:30 a.m.

The blaze appeared to have started in a bedroom of the downstairs apartment, said Capt. Jim Kaufman of the Butler Fire Department.

The first floor apartment is occupied. The second floor apartment is vacant.

Fire crews were met with heavy smoke coming out both apartments. They forced in a door of the upstairs apartment to get inside.

The fire was out in about 10 minutes, Kaufman said.

Neither a cause nor damage estimate was immediately available.
