Fab freshmen lead KC past ACV

Gremlins clip Falcons, 72-61

Karns City's fabulous freshmen came through for the Gremlins again Wednesday night.

Chase Beighley scored 24 points and had five assists while Nathan Waltman added 14 points in KC's 72-61 boys basketball win over A-C Valley. Logan Pistorius contributed 11 points, Jacob Friel 10 points and eight rebounds.

Dalton Callander netted 13 points for A-C Valley, Eddie Stevanus 11 and Brendan Price 10.

Karns City (5-4, 4-1) hosts Cranberry Friday.

Sharon 48, Grove City 46 — Logan Lutz scored 15 points and Brayden Martin added 13, but the Eagles dropped their first game of the season.

Grove City is now 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the region.

George Junior Republic 53, Slippery Rock 37 — Luke Brandon scored 13 points for the Rockets in this loss.

Redbank Valley 44, Moniteau 38 — Jared Lominski paced the Warriors with 11 points.

Keystone 64, Union 28 — Lucas Bowser scored 10 points to lead the Golden Knights.

Girls Basketball

Emily Hegedus drove the length of the floor for a lay-up with five seconds left in overtime as Karns City nipped A-C Valley, 51-50.

Hegedus scored 30 points and had more than 10 rebounds for the Gremlins (6-3). Sarah Knox and Livia Andreassi had more than 10 boards as well.

Olivia Boocks scored 19 points for the Falcons.

Moniteau 61, Redbank Valley 35 — Emma Bair had 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots as Moniteau defeated Redbank Valley, 61-35. Kristen Auvil had 18 points for the Warriors as well.

Auvil sank five 3-pointers for Moniteau (4-5), which hosts Clarion next Wednesday.

Keystone 60, Union 31 — Frankee Remmick scored 11 points and Hannah Atzeni added 10 to pace the Damsels.

Bowling

Freeport's boys improved to 3-2 with a 7-0 win at Mars. Mark Livingston had a 580 series for the Yellowjackets, David Kinnieurgh a 402.

Mars girls defeated Freeport 7-0 as Isabelle Berkopec had a 4o9 for the Planets. Caitlyn Crissman led Freeport with a 339.

Wrestling

Seneca Valley recorded eight pins in cruising past Pine-Richland, 61-9.

Scoring falls for the Raiders were Alejandro Herrera at 106 pounds, Jason Geyer at 126, Antonio Amelio at 132, Nick Montalbano at 145, Conor Hayes at 160, Tyler Gross at 170, John Siwiak at 195 and Kevin Meeder at 285.

Private Schools

Aaron Drake had 19 points and six steals Tuesday as the First Baptist Christian boys basketball team defeated Aquinas Academy, 55-41.

Nate Errington and Derek Butterworth had 12 points each while Ben Drake snared 15 rebounds and Nick Flatt 11 boards.
