Stitt, Hegedus spark KC girls

Gremlins win behind steal, double-double

Alyssa Stitt forced a turnover with 10 seconds remaining Friday night, helping the Karns City girls basketball team hold on for a 46-45 win over Oil City in the latter's holiday tournament.

Emily Hegedus paced the Gremlins (5-3) with 26 points and 12 rebounds. She has had a double-double in every game this season.

Stitt added 12 points for Karns City, which plays at A-C Valley Wednesday.

Mars 46, South Park 33 — Lauren Wasylson scored 29 points as the Planets took the opening game at the Shaler Tournament.

Tai Johnson added 11 points for Mars (5-3), which will play host Shaler at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 49, Fox Chapel 33 — Kylee Lewandowski scored 13 points to pace the Trojanettes.

Slippery Rock 61, Farrell 44 — Anna Kadlubek scored 17 points and also had three steals and three assists for the Rockets in this win at the Farrell Tournament.

Emma McDermott added 16 points and Macy McCall pitched in 12 for Slippery Rock.

Jenna Heitzenrater added 11 rebounds for the Rockets.

Seneca Valley 56, Riverside 51 — Gretchen Koken scored 20 points to pace the Raiders at the Riverside Tourament.

McKenna Gross added 19 points for Seneca Valley.

Grove City 46, Fairview 30 — Clara Hannon and Becca Santom each scored 15 points as the Eagles won the Mercer Tournament title.

The win was also the 100th in the career of Grove City coach Chris Burtch.

Union 52, Mercer 44 — Frankee Remmick poured in 20 points as the Damsels used a big fourth quarter to pull away in the consolation game at the Mercer Tournament.

Hannah Atzeni added 14 points for Union.

Boys Basketball

A.J. Miller scored 12 points and Brayden Martin added 10 as Grove City crushed Conneaut, 70-41, in the championship game of the Conneaut Christmas Tournament.

Seneca Valley 61, Cumberland Valley 52 — Chris Hart and Marcus Might each scored 11 points as the Raiders (6-2) capped the three-day Shady Side Academy Tournament with a win.

West Shamokin 53, Karns City 43 — The Gremlins (4-4) received 12 points from Logan Pistorius and 10 from Chase Beighley in the consolation game of the West Shamokin tourney.

Pistorius made the all-tournament team. Karns City hosts A-C Valley Wednesday.
