Raiders rally for win

SV knocks off unbeaten Woodland Hills

David Ritchie scored 14 points and also added five steals as the Seneca Valley boys basketball team rallied to beat previously undefeated Woodland Hills 53-49 Thursday at the Shady Side Academy Tournament.

The Raiders trailed 26-19 at the half and were down in the fourth quarter before rallying.

Marcus Might added 10 points and 13 rebounds for Seneca Valley.

Freeport 85, Curwensville 54 — Ben Beale scored 28 points as the Yellowjackets rolled in the first round of their holiday tournament.

Jalen Brown added 14 points and Davon Shiring added 12 points for Freeport, which will play Eden Christian in the championship game Friday.

Clarion-Limestone 89, Karns City 43 — Logan Pistorius led the Gremlins (4-3) with eight points.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 54, West Mifflin 38 — John Fukon scored 18 points to lead the Trojans to a win in the consolation game of the Gateway Tournament.

Mike Drambel added 14 points for North Catholic (4-4).

Grove City 65, Sharpsville 50 — Logan Lutz scored 14 points to lead the Eagles to this win at the Conneaut Tournament.

Isaac Thrasher added 11 points for Grove City (6-0).

Shenango 66, Slippery Rock 59 — Nick Wherthey scored 23 points and Luke Brandon added 17 points and 12 rebounds, but the Rockets fell at the Mercer Tournament.

Rod Williams pitched in 11 points and 11 rebounds for Slippery Rock.

Kane 61, Union 42 — Lucas Bowser's 13 points paced Union at the Sheffield Tournament.

Kane led 33-20 at halftime and received a game-high 26 points from Chad Greville.

Girls Basketball

Southmoreland 47, Freeport 27 — Samantha Clark and Jenna Manke each scored nine points as the Yellowjackets dropped this game at the Riverside Tournament.

Grove City 62, Union 19 — The Eagles steamrolled the Damsels at the Mercer Tournament.

Clara Hannon led all scorers with 20 points for Grove City, which led 33-7 at halftime.

General McLane 50, Karns City 49 — Emily Hegedus continued her superb senior season with 32 points and 12 rebounds for the Gremlins at the Oil City Tournament.

KC also received nine points and nine rebounds from Livia Andreassi.
