Gross, Koken lead Raiders to section win over P-R

Butler native and Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic sophomore Kylee Lewandowski eyes the hoop on a fast break against Freeport Thursday night. Lewandowski scored 16 points to lead the Trojanettes to a 60-22 victory.

McKenna Gross (21 points) and Gretchen Koken (18) combined for 39 points in the Seneca Valley girls basketball team's 55-29 section-opening win over visiting Pine-Richland on Thursday.

Haley Cramer added 12 rebounds and four steals for the Raiders (4-2, 1-0), who led 27-13 at halftime.

C.W. North Catholic 60, Freeport 22 — Kylee Lewandowski drained 16 points, including four 3-pointers, as the Trojanettes (5-0, 3-0) remained undefeated.

Dani Short added nine points and eight rebounds for CWNC.

The host Yellowjackets (3-3, 1-1) were led by Jenna Manke's 11 points.

Knoch 35, Burrell 32 — Casey Kretzer's 14 points paced the Knights in this section clash on the road.

Kayla Grafton added 12 points for Knoch (2-4, 2-0).

A-C Valley 66, Union 36 — The Falcons overwhelmed the host Damsels, with Ellie Thompson (15), Annie Viertel (11) and Kylee Eaton (10) all reaching double digits in points.

Senior forward Frankee Remmick scored 28 of Union's 36 points.

Boys Basketball

Lucas Bowser's 22 points helped Union defeat A-C Valley, 67-60.

Nolan Cumberland added 14 points and Reice Saylor 13 for the Golden Knights, who held a 47-30 lead after three quarters.

Russ Carr tallied 21 points and six steals for the Falcons, Eddie Stevanus 13 points and eight rebounds and Dalton Callander 10 points.

Wrestling

Butler dropped a 42-33 decision at Freedom.

Earning pins for the Golden Tornado (1-2) were Steven Green (132 pounds), Jack Codispot (145), Christian Sequete (182) and Ian Thompson (285).
