Youngsters aid Foster projectSAXONBURG — Kindergarten students at South Butler Primary School recently showed their kindness and generosity.Instead of classroom gift exchanges, the children helped children entering foster care by donating backpacks and items to fill them. The pajamas, socks, blankets, toys, books and other fun and useful items they collected far surpassed their goal of filling 40 bags. They filled 93 bags and delivered them to the Foster Love Project in Pittsburgh.—–—GROVE CITY — Cameron Suorsa of Slippery Rock was part of the winning team from Grove City College at Techstars Startup Weekend in Pittsburgh.Suorsa is 2017 graduate of Slippery Rock High School and a freshman at Grove City College.The event, a 54-hour exercise in entrepreneurial endurance, promised participants a chance to learn how to take any idea from concept to creation within a matter of days.The weekend included pitches for business ideas, business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation culminating in presentations, feedback and judgment by a panel of local entrepreneurs.The Department of Entrepreneurship at Grove City College prepares and inspires principled, entrepreneurs whose innovations improve people’s lives and solve important problems.———KEY LARGO, Fla. — Katie Liebler of Butler received the 2017 Outstanding Student Award from the Resort and Commercial Recreation Association during its annual conference in Oregon.The award recognizes a student or intern member who has worked to make a positive contribution to the association, his or her property, university or college.Liebler is a student at Youngstown State University. She is involved with Penguin Productions, the university’s programming board, where she helps manage signature events.She is a 2016 graduate of Butler High School and the daughter of Michael and Gina Liebler of Butler.———JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley instrumental music program was represented recently by 51 students at the Pennsylvania Music Education Association District 5 Honors Band.More than 200 musicians auditioned for the 121-member band.
