Mexican man arrested for DUI

ADAMS TWP — Police have arrested a Mexican man for driving under the influence and without a license.

Hector Santiago, 29, is charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license, driving without insurance and disregarding traffic lanes after officers pulled him over in the township late last month.

He is in the Butler County Prison on a $6,000 bail which the court reduced from $25,000.

Arresting Officer Robert O’Neill pulled over Santiago near the Mars High School Nov. 23.

“He had no photo identification nor was he able to provide an insurance or registration card,” O’Neill said in his report.

Santiago had two open beer cans in the car and appeared visibly intoxicated, documents say.

“From the stop I transported him to UPMC Passavant Cranberry,” O’Neill said. “He did not possess any identification and he did not have a Social Security number nor a license due to the fact he was from Mexico and not the U.S.”

Santiago submitted to a blood test which showed with a blood-alcohol level of 0.141. A level of 0.08 is considered intoxicated under state law.

He will be arraigned Jan. 22.

Lacking documentation, township police have reached out to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to determine Santiago’s immigrant status in their system. ICE has not responded yet, they said.
