State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe exhibits the characteristic mind-set of a cult leader who urges his followers to “fear the other.” He wants us to hate our neighbor if they do not look like us, worship as we worship, belong to the same political party, and the list goes on and on. He preaches division and fear because that’s the only tool that ineffective politicians like Metcalfe have to keep their small pool of constituents together.

Aside from the embarrassment he brought to us last week, there are many reasons why Metcalfe should resign. He has continued to hold captive three House bills in his committee that need to go to the floor for a vote. The passage of these bills would make better for Pennsylvanians. We can no longer elect poor performing officials like Metcalfe whose only skill is obstructionist politics. We need elected officials that have good progressive ideas, are willing to work across the aisle, and hold bright visions of the future for all citizens.

I believe people can and want to work together to make our district a great place to live, but we can’t do that when our representative magnifies our differences and then uses them as a vehicle for hate.
