Bair leads way in Moniteau's 1st win of year

Emma Bair scored 15 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked eight shots in Moniteau's 44-28 girls basketball win Wednesday night at Union.

Kristin Auvil added 13 points for the Warriors (1-2), who host A-C Valley Friday night.

Hannah Atzeni led Union with 16 points.

A-C Valley 77, Keystone 35 — Ellie Thompson led the Falcons with 24 points. Kylee Eaton added 16, Olivia Boocks 13 and Cami McNany 10.

Karns City 54, Redbank Valley 48 — Emily Hegedus led the Gremlins (2-1) with 19 points while Alyssa Stitt added 18.

Karns City hosts Keystone Friday night.

One girls game — New Castle at Butler — was postponed by inclement weather. Two scheduled boys games — Seneca Valley at Blackhawk and Freeport at Mohawk — were postponed as well. Makeup dates have not been announced.

Private Schools

Tyler Hollerman scored 14 points to lead Portersville Christian School to a 62-29 boys basketball victory over East Liverpool. Jacob Cross added eight points.

Ben Caldwell scored 10 points for East Liverpool.

Wrestling

Seneca Valley won two matches by forfeit and the rest by pin-fall in romping past Highlands, 84-0, Wednesday night.

Scoring pins for the Raiders were Dylan Chappell at 113 pounds, Louis Newell at 126, Jason Geyer at 132, Antonio Amelio at 138, Drew Vlasnik at 145, Nick Montalbano at 152, Michael Adamson at 160, Tyler Gross at 170, Patrick Johnson at 182, John Sieiak at 195, Nick Funovits at 220 and Kevin Meeder at 285.

Mars 47, Knoch 24 — The Planets turned the tide in this match by getting successive pins from Noah Hunkele at 106 pounds and Keith Brubach at 113. Max Lamm at 138 and Alex Hornfeck at 145 also had pins for Mars.

Knoch received pins from Brendan Hinchberger at 152 and Dalton Reed at 220.

Bowling

Butler improved to 2-0 on the season by sweeping Mars at Mars Lanes. Both scores were 7-0.

Chris Huff rolled a 215 game and 565 series for the Golden Tornado. Jordan Reges added games of 206 and 201 and a 561 series.

Mercedes Belch led the girls with a 528 series. Ashley McCue had games of 193 and 192, along with a 525 series.

The Tornado host Freeport Tuesday and go back to Mars Lanes to face Seneca Valley next Wednesday.

In other action:

Freeport's boys picked up their first win in program history, defeating Seneca Valley 7-0. Mark Livingston led the Yellowjackets with a high game of 256 and a 645 series. Issaic Spencer had a 247 game for the junior varsity. Jason Hartenstein rolled a 536 for the Raider varsity.

Seneca Valley won the girls match, 7-0, as Madison Ferringer rolled a 215 game and Seirra Koerbel a 561 series. Jordan Fisher rolled a 140 game for Freeport.

The Yellowjackets play at Butler Tuesday and host Shaler next Wednesday.
