BUTLER TWP — Mackenzie Craig scored 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Monday night, but the Butler County Community College women’s basketball team dropped a 68-62 decision to the Point Park JV.

Lydia Roth contributed 18 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists. Carly Burdett scored 10 points.

[naviga:h3]SRU’s Martin joins East-West Game[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior defensive end has officially accepted an invitation to play in the 93rd annual Easst-West Shrine Game Jan. 20 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The game will be coached by members of current NFL coaching staffs.

Martin becomes the third player in Rock football history to accept an invitation to one of the top two senior all-star games. Chuck Sanders played in the 1986 Shrine Game and Seneca Valley graduate Brandon Fusco played in the 2011 Senior Bowl.

[naviga:h3]5 GCC gridders heading to Mexico[/naviga:h3]

GROVE CITY — Five Grove City College senior football players will represent the United States in the 2017 Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) game at 3 p.m. Saturday in Tijuana, Mexico.

The five will be part of Team Stars & Stripes, a 40-man squad of Division III players that will face an all-star team of players from the premier collegiate American Football league in Mexico.

Representing GCC will be defensive end Jacob Armbrecht, safety Kyle Beyer, wide receiver Gabe Greco, linebacker Deion Minor and linebacker/safety Andrew Seifert.

[naviga:h3]Azarenka awarded wild card berth[/naviga:h3]

MELBOURNE, Australia — Two-time former champion Victoria Azarenka has been awarded a wild card for the Australian Open.

Azarenka, who won the Australian Open in 2012 and 2013, has been involved in a custody dispute involving her son Leo, who was born last Dec. 19.

She hasn’t competed anywhere since Wimbledon, where she lost to Simona Halep in the fourth round on July 10. The dispute with her former partner started shortly after Wimbledon ended.

[naviga:h3]Pelicans’ Allen has fractured leg[/naviga:h3]

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Pelicans say guard Tony Allen has been diagnosed with a fibula fracture in his left leg and is expected to miss three to four weeks.

The 6-foot-4 Allen, whose injury was announced on Tuesday, has appeared in 22 games for New Orleans this season, averaging 4.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per game.

Allen fell to the court during the first half of the Pelicans’ victory over Philadelphia on Sunday night. He picked himself up and limped on his own to the locker room.

[naviga:h3]Bellinger could play more in outfield[/naviga:h3]

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — NL Rookie of the Year Cody Bellinger could play more often in the outfield for the Los Angeles Dodgers next season if first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is healthy.

Last season, Bellinger made 83 starts at first base and 43 in the outfield, where he played all three positions. He was first base throughout the postseason with Gonzalez sidelined.
