4 p.m. Sunday — Mary Jane Putnam, 50, who has no known address, was arrested on a bench warrant after allegedly giving police a bogus name at a downtown store.

Police were called for a woman soliciting money at the Rite Aid on South Main Street and found Putnam inside the store vestibule. She provided phony information to officers, according to court documents.

She was detained and searched, which turned up a hypodermic needle in her coat pocket, police said. She also was carrying an Access card that had her name on it.

Police checked her name in the National Crime Information Center database and learned that she was wanted on a warrant. Putnam was placed in the Butler County Prison on the warrant.

She also is charged with false identification to law enforcement authorities, possession of drug paraphernalia and harassment.

Friday — Wayne R. Johnson, 35, of Buffalo Township was found with suspected heroin last month at an apartment on the 400 block of North Washington Street. Police had gone to the home for a reported domestic dispute between Johnson and Melissa Cammisa, 32, of Butler.

Officers arrested both suspects after finding each were on bench warrants.

But before Johnson was taken to the Butler County Prison on his warrant, according to court documents, he admitted having heroin inside the battery cover of his cell phone. Police removed the cover and found two stamp bags of suspected heroin.

Additionally, officers found him with a metal spoon.

Johnson is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

11 p.m. Dec. 6 — Kassandra L. Walker, 31, of Butler was caught with drug contraband after police found her allegedly intoxicated while walking on the 300 block of Franklin Street. Moments earlier, police had gotten a call for a woman staggering on the 100 block of West New Castle Street.

Walker smelled badly of alcohol, according to court documents, and she claimed that she had no where to go that night. She was arrested for public intoxication and searched. Police said they found a used syringe and drug-smoking pipe in her purse.

She is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.

Thursday — Adam R. Degroff, 37, of Grove City was charged with bouncing two checks, for a combined $1,938.20, at a Worth Township business.

Degroff is accused of passing the checks in June at R.W. Sidley Inc. on New Castle Road. Sidley officials told police that they contacted Degroff, who promised to begin making restitution.

But as of Thursday, court documents said, he still had not made any payments. He is charged with first-degree misdemeanor counts of theft by deception and bad checks.

12:32 a.m. Dec. 4 — Kenneth P. Keller, 47, of Fenelton was arrested for drunken driving after police found him in his sport utility vehicle at the GetGo convenience store on Route 8 in Butler Township.

Police noticed the SUV had a flat tire on the driver’s side and damage to the rear passenger side. Keller told troopers that he was drunk, according to court documents, and that he had wrecked his vehicle into a utility pole and a curb on his way from a nearby bar.

He smelled badly of alcohol, police said, and he needed help to stand. He submitted to a portable breath test device that indicated he had alcohol in his system. Toxicology results from a subsequent blood test at Butler Memorial Hospital are pending.

Keller was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence and careless driving. He was later released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
