[naviga:h3]SRU’s Till, Patterson get PSAC honors[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University basketball players Micah Till and Ciara Patterson have been named PSAC West Basketball Athletes of the Week.

Till received the honor on the men’s side, scoring 27 points and grabbing 11 rebounds vs. Millersville, then tallying 20 points and 17 boards against Carlow.

Patterson received the honor on the women’s side, scoring 28 points, hitting five 3-pointers, collecting six rebounds and three assists against Millersville.

[naviga:h3]Reindeer Race set for Saturday[/naviga:h3]

ZELIENOPLE — The 5th Annual Reindeer Race will be held Saturday, with registration and packet pick-up starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Masonic Hall, 330 East Beaver Street in Zelienople.

The event is suitable for people of all ages.

Four races will be held, including a 5K, 1-mile, half-mile and quarter-mile event. The 5K will begin at 11 a.m., with the other three races beginning at the conclusion of the previous race.

Individuals can take part in one race or all four. Each registrant will receive a Christmas ornament and a Reindeer Race custom winter hat. Discount fees are available for families of three or four members.

The top boys and girls ages 11-and-under and 12-and-older will win a scholarship to a Get Fit Families Summer Day Camp, a gift valued at $275. Overall awards and age-group awards will be presented.

A holiday party including gourmet cinnamon swirl bread french toast, gourmet hot cocoa, chili, soup, meatballs and more will be offered throughout the morning and afternoon.

Santa Claus will visit at 10 a.m.

Athletes can pre-register at https://www.active.com/zelienople-pa/running/distance-running-races/reindeer-race-2017. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Get Fit Families Youth Triathlon Team. Donations will help the team purchase new equipment.

[naviga:h3]Journeyman Barnes retires from NBA[/naviga:h3]

LOS ANGELES — Matt Barnes is retiring from the NBA after playing for nine teams over 14 years and winning a championship with Golden State last season.

The 37-year-old small forward hasn’t played this season. He posted his retirement announcement on Instagram on Monday.
