Hornfeck wins tourney title

Mars senior wrestler Alex Hornfeck won his weight class for the third straight year at the Hickory Tournament, held Friday and Saturday.

Hornfeck, now competing at 145 pounds, pinned Hickory's Braelin Stewart in the second period of the title bout.

He reached the final with three wins — a first-round pin of Maplewood's Aaron Motter, a technical fall against Kane's Nate Asp and an 8-2 decision over Coudersport's David Kudrick.

Knoch's best effort at the event came from 285-pounder Saavon Mosby, who placed second.

Mosby went 3-0 before being forced to withdraw from the title bout with an injury, handing Union City's Matt Long the championship.
