[naviga:h3]Wreath event at Diamond Park[/naviga:h3]

The General Butler Chapter NSDAR, a fundraising group for Wreaths Across America, will host a presentation of wreaths at noon Dec. 16 in Diamond Park.

The event is to raise awareness and support efforts to cover each veteran’s headstone in Arlington Cemetery this December.

Military representatives will place seven wreaths in the park across from the Butler County Courthouse as part of 1,200 ceremonies across the United States, at sea and abroad.

[naviga:h3]Jennings Center programs slated[/naviga:h3]

BRADY TWP — Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, will have the following events in December:

9 a.m. to noon Dec. 16, Bartramian Audubon chapter’s annual Butler County Christmas Bird Count: Anyone can attend this free, informal birding session during the morning. Pre-registration is not required.

10 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 28, Winter Wonder Walk: Jennings staff will lead this family-friendly freewheeling exploration for experiencing wintertime wonders along the center’s trails. The program is free, and pre-registration is not required;

10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Dec. 31. First Night Hike: This family-friendly hike will ring in the New Year. It will include hot cider and cocoa around a campfire when the clock strikes midnight. Jennings staff and assistants will lead the hike for about one mile on Jennings’ prairie side trails.

7 p.m. Jan. 13, Owl Prowl: Participants will explore the folklore, natural history and adaptations of these mysterious creatures of the night. After a brief indoor presentation, guests will prowl among owls and other winter nightlife during a guided walk on Jennings’ darkened forest trails.
