Tornado girls lose heartbreaker

West Shamokin gets 36-35 win

West Senior guard Mia Rader scored 12 points, but Butler missed a jumper with three seconds left to seal their fate in a 36-35 loss to West Shamokin in the first day of the Armstrong Tournament Friday night.

Butler's defense held the Wolves' Olivia Fusaro, who averaged 18 points per game last season, to seven points.

Jordan Kauffman added seven points for Butler.

C.W. North Catholic 40, Villa Maria 34 — The Trojanettes led 31-21 entering the final quarter and held on for the win at the Oakland Catholic Tournament.

Tess Myers scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds for CWNC, while Dani Short tallied eight points and five rebounds.

Union 58, Rocky Grove 47 — Frankee Remmick had a great start to the season, dropping 27 points and pulling down 13 rebounds against the Orioles at the Roy Sanner Tournament.

Remmick was also 10-of-10 from the free throw line.

Bryn Davis added 13 points and Hannah Atzeni 12 for the Damsels.

Grove City 51, Jamestown 24 — Clara Hannon scored 16 for the Eagles at the Kiser Classic.

Lily Burtch added nine points in the win.

West Middlesex 75, A-C Valley 39 — Falcons' senior forward Ellie Thompson reached 1,000 career points by scoring 23 at the West Middlesex Tournament.

Thompson now has 1,005 varsity points to her credit.

South Fayette 62, Freeport 39 — Madeline Clark and Jenna Manke both scored 10 points for the Yellowjackets at the South Fayette Tournament.

The Lions outscored Freeport 34-15 in the second half.

Montour 50, Knoch 37 — Casey Kretzer's 11 points led the Knights at the Montour Classic.

Kennedy Catholic 44, Seneca Valley 30 — Junior Gretchen Koken scored 14 points for the Raiders in their own tournament.

Warren 53, Moniteau 41 — Kristin Auvil had 11 points, Emma Bair scored nine points with 12 rebounds and eight blocks and Izzy Bair added eight points for the Warriors at the Warren County Classic.

Indiana 62, Karns City 45 — The Gremlins dropped their season opener in the Indiana Tip-Off Tournament.
