This building on South Main Street in Butler was recently sold.

A 68-year old building along Butler’s Main Street has a new owner.

C. Timothy Shaffer sold the former Rite Aid building, 118-122 S. Main St., to Lock Solid Storage, owned by Andrew Sherry and Michael Liguori, according to public records obtained through the Recorder of Deeds office.

The documents listed the property’s sale price at $500,000.

The building was built and used as a G.C. Murphy in the 1940s, according to the broker of the sale, Chuck Schmitzer III. By the 1970s, G.C. Murphy had moved to the Butler Mall and became Murphy’s Mart. In 1972, the parcel was purchased by Arthur G. Gaudino, before Shaffer bought the it in 1987.

Shaffer rented the building out to Rite Aid through the 1990s. The pharmacy moved to its current location in December of 2014. The back of the building is also being used by Butler Record Storage, accessible on South Jackson Street and West Birch Street.

“It’s quite a large building,” he said. “Murphys were just nice looking stores.”

Schmitzer said the building was listed at around 31,000 square feet for $650,000.

“It’s a nice asset,” he said.

Schmitzer said the new owners have worked meticulously to develop their future plans for the store.

“Everything was done up to code,” he said. “It was just done nicely.”

Sherry said the partners are not ready to go public with their intentions for the building.
