Monday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Justin R. Manny, 37, of Butler on charges he attacked another man with a hammer last month at an apartment on the 300 block of West Jefferson Street.

Manny is accused of showing up intoxicated just after 1 p.m. Nov. 9 at the apartment, where he was not welcome. Also there were several other people, including Bradin Bender.

According to court documents, when Bender began to force Manny out of the apartment, he picked up a hammer and “began to swing it.” He struck Bender on the wrist, causing a minor injury.

Manny is charged with simple assault.

11:37 p.m. Nov. 24 — An unknown hit-and-run driver is blamed for a three-vehicle wreck on the 200 block of East Penn Street.

Police said the driver of a white Acura car struck the rear of another vehicle parked on the north side of the road. The crash forced the parked vehicle into the back of another car that was parked on the same side of the street.

The driver fled, according to a police report, leaving his smoking car behind. Witnesses reported seeing a black male running from the scene.

Police said a witness, Dilbert Fairweather, 24, of Butler, was arrested after he was found to be wanted on a warrant.

8:42 a.m. Monday — Two students, both 13-year-old boys, were cited for disorderly conduct after getting into a fight at the Butler Intermediate High School.

10:12 p.m. Nov. 29 — Edward M. Miller, 28, of Butler was found with suspected marijuana and other drug contraband following a traffic stop on Route 356.

Miller is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and a lighting violation.

Thursday — An unspecified amount of money, found at the McDonald’s restaurant on West Main Street, was turned in to police. The owner can claim the money by calling police at 724-458-7925.

Butler County Drug Task Force

Monday — Cheyenne A. Karch, 40, was charged with misdemeanor drug possession in connection with a Nov. 21 visit at her home on the 600 block of Bessemer Avenue in Lyndora.

Officers found a large amount of contraband, according to court documents, including 23 hypodermic needles, about 60 empty bags of suspected heroin, five drug-smoking pipes and a digital scale.

Additionally, Karch was found at the home with suspected marijuana, 30 pills of the anti-anxiety drug clonazepam and one open package with a partial strip of Suboxone. Authorities noted that she does not have prescriptions for the clonazepam Suboxone.

Karch was arraigned on two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana. Bail in the case was set at $3,000. She remains in the Butler County Prison.

Nov. 28 — Police charged Justin W. Brown, 30, of Butler with being more than 2½ times the legal limit for alcohol, stemming from a one-vehicle crash Nov. 13 in Center Township.

At about 11:30 p.m. Brown lost control of his sport utility vehicle and struck an embankment on Palmer Road, police said. The SUV rolled onto its driver’s side.

He told police that he was on his way home from a friend’s house in Karns City, according to court documents, where he had been drinking beer. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.

A breath test at the Butler police station showed Brown’s blood-alcohol level was 0.202 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition to driving under the influence, he is charged with driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.

Nov. 28 — Eric B. Demko, 22, of Adams Township was charged with drugged driving in connection with a traffic stop about 2:40 a.m. Nov. 11 in Center Township. He was stopped for weaving in his lane of travel and crossing the center line on Route 8.

Police asked Demko if he had taken any drugs that night, court documents said, and he replied “only his medications.” He subsequently showed impairment during failed field sobriety testing.

He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that indicated he had several drugs in his system, documents said, including sertraline, desmethylsertraline, hydroxyrisperidon and risperidon.

Demko is charged with driving under the influence of drugs, careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes and not wearing a seat belt.

Nov. 28 — Hunter T. Gruver, 21, of Summit Township was charged with DUI in connection with a one-vehicle rollover wreck last month in Oakland Township.

Police said Gruver was speeding shortly before 1 a.m. Oct. 28, when his car hit an embankment and overturned on Route 68 near Eyth Road. He failed field sobriety tests, according to court documents, and tested positive for alcohol on a portable breath test device.

Gruver was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.085 percent and he had marijuana in his system.

He is charged with DUI, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes, failing to keep right, disobeying traffic control devices and not wearing a seat belt.

Nov. 27 — Police charged Henry J. Compernolle III, 20, of Gibsonia with DUI stemming from a Nov. 4 traffic stop in Center Township. Police said they stopped him about 2:30 a.m. on Route 8 after getting a call for an erratic driver.

Troopers said they smelled a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from the vehicle but Compernolle denied drinking, according to court documents. He submitted to a portable breath test device that indicated he had alcohol in his system.

Police said they arrested him after he failed field sobriety test. A breath test at the barracks showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.095 percent.

In addition to driving under the influence, Compernolle is charged with DUI by a minor, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Kittanning[/naviga:h3]

5:13 p.m. Sunday — A southbound pickup truck driven by Raymond A. Cole, 64, of Sarver struck another pickup parked on the side of Route 28, about one mile before the Slate Lick exit. Police said they cited Cole for disregarding traffic lanes.
