Fun Fore All lights up for a good cause

CRANBERRY TWP — Area residents are encouraged to put on their coats, hats and mittens and play miniature golf this holiday season for a good cause.

Fun Fore All Family Fun Park has decked out its 36 holes of miniature golf with holiday lights to continue its outdoor season a little longer this year. Holiday Lights Mini Golf opened Nov. 17 and will run from 5 to 10 p.m. through Jan. 2.

A portion of the proceeds from the Holiday Lights Mini Golf will go to Highmark Caring Place, a community resource that offers services to grieving children, adolescents and their families.

“It's going to be an exciting month,” said Chris Camp, owner of Fun Fore All.Camp said he's wanted to put up holiday lights at Fun Fore All for a long time. After it expanded in the spring, he finally had the space both indoors and outdoors to hold a winter event.The park's two miniature golf courses have themed lights throughout, including penguins, a holiday village, under the sea and the Taj Mahal. Nathan Marshall, director of marketing and special events for Fun Fore All, said the work started about the end of October and took about two weeks to complete.“Fun Fore All is revered for our family fun and with that at the heart of all we do, we created an event that combines the spirit of the holidays with the joy our park brings to the whole family,” he said.Camp said The Caring Place seemed like the perfect place to partner with for the event because of its focus on helping local children and their families. The Caring Place has a location just south of Cranberry in Warrendale and three others in Pittsburgh, Erie and Harrisburg.Therese Vorsheck, director of Highmark Caring Place, said the partnership between the business and nonprofit has been important as their work is both geared toward children, and it's more similar than they think.One of the important messages the Caring Place likes to get across to clients is that it's still OK to have fun while they grieve, Vorsheck said. The Caring Place offers a variety of programs to grieving children, from infants to high schoolers and their families.“That's where this really made sense, because it's OK to be a kid and still have fun,” she said.In addition to the lights, Fun Fore All is holding a variety of free activities each weekend, including pictures with Santa, face painting, balloon art, caricature art and a petting zoo and reindeer from Living Treasures Animal Park.There will also be holiday food and drinks for purchase like hot chocolate, hot apple cider from Soergel Orchards, s'mores and gourmet kettle corn, cinnamon roasted nuts and caramel apples from J.D.'s Popcorn.A complete list of events can be found at www.funforeall.com/holiday-light-mini-golf.
