Burst pipe affects city traffic

Crews respond to a broken pipe at the intersection of Main Street and Jefferson Street Monday.

Pennsylvania American Water Co. and Wright Construction Co. crews were working at the scene of a burst pipe at the intersection of Main Street and Jefferson Street Monday afternoon.

A 90-year-old cast iron pipe broke around 9 a.m. and disrupted service to 10 customers, said Gary Lobaugh of Pennsylvania American Water. Service was expected to be restored by midnight.

Traffic was able to move freely around the scene, though the middle lane for northbound vehicles to turn left onto Jefferson Street was temporarily blocked.
