Suspect arrested in Officer Brian Shaw's death

Former SRU kicker Brian Shaw was killed over weekend while serving as police officer.

The manhunt is over for the suspect accused of fatally shooting New Kensington Police Officer Brian Shaw.

State police said Rahmael Holt, 29, of Natrona Heights was arrested without incident early this morning at a home in the Hazelwood neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

Police had been looking for Holt since he was identified as the gunman in Shaw's killing that followed a traffic stop Friday night in New Kensington, Westmoreland County.

Holt is in custody and is facing homicide and felony gun charges

State police in Greensburg are to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. today to discuss Holt's capture and other case developments.

According to court documents, Shaw about 10 p.m. stopped a sport utility vehicle on Leishman Avenue. However, the vehicle never stopped, and Holt, who was a passenger, got out of the moving vehicle and fled.

Shaw chased after Holt, who allegedly fired multiple shots, killing the officer, a 2013 Slippery Rock University graduate.

Police later identified the driver, Tavon J. Harper, 27, of New Kensington, who was arrested Sunday. He is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $500,000 bail.
