Meth lab hearings delayed after suspect becomes ill

Jonah Post

Several hearings into an alleged methamphetamine lab in Butler were postponed Monday after one of the defendants suffered an apparent seizure in court.

A Butler Ambulance Service crew was called to the office of District Judge William Fullerton about 1:15 p.m. when Jonah Post, 34, of Waterford, Erie County passed out while seated in the courtroom waiting for his preliminary hearing.

Post reportedly has epilepsy and suffers from frequent seizures.

City police officers, who were already in the courtroom keeping watch on prisoners, stepped in and eased Post — handcuffed and wearing a prison-issue jumpsuit — out of his chair and onto the floor.

Paramedics tended to him before he was placed on a stretcher — unconscious but breathing — and taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, authorities said. He was treated and released, and was back in the county prison at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Police on Nov. 7 arrested Post and six others — including his sister and brother — after raiding a suspected drug apartment at 309 W. Cunningham St.

The raid culminated an investigation into suspected drug activity at the house in front of the Salvation Army — just one block away from Fullerton's office.

Armed with a search warrant, investigators said they found a “one-pot” meth lab at the home.
