Man gets probation for leaving his daughter home alone

A former Cranberry Township man was sentenced to probation in Butler County Court on Thursday after being charged with leaving his 4-year-old daughter home alone without parental supervision.

Christian Reid, 28, was sentenced to 15 months probation by Judge William Shaffer.

Shaffer also allowed the probation to be transferred to Dauphin County, where Reid now resides, and ordered him to pay court costs and a $150 fine.

Reid previously pleaded guilty to misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child after an incident on Sept. 30, 2014.

The charges were filed by Cranberry Township police after a 911 call at 10:50 p.m. reported that the parents of a small child had left the child home alone on Route 19 while they were at work.

When police arrived, they found the mobile home dark without any lights, and when officers knocked on the door, a 4-year-old child answered. When asked if anyone else was home, became scared and tried to close the door.

Officers entered the home and the child ran into a bedroom that contained a mattress on the floor beside a TV, according to the affidavit of probable cause. No one else was there at the time, and the home smelled of cat urine and feces, documents state.

The child was taken to the station and turned over to Butler County Children and Youth Services, the document states.
