Laurena Shick

ASHLAND, Ohio — Laurena Shick of Butler is the recipient of the 2017-18 Business Advisory Council Endowed Scholarship presented by the Dauch College of Business and Economics at Ashland University.

Shick is a junior majoring in fashion merchandising and marketing at Ashland. She was selected for her leadership in the Dauch College of Business, on the university campus and in the community.

She also was named Ashland University’s October Intern of the Month following her work as a styling intern for Rachel Vallozzi, a freelance wardrobe stylist.

Shick made contributions to Vallozzi’s freelance work while assisting with wardrobe styling for commercials.

She is the daughter of Jean Shick and the late Terry Shick and is a 2015 graduate of Slippery Rock High School.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — Kara Daggett, Devvin La Barge and Alexa Lowe, all of Mars, Austin McClure of Cranberry Township and Alliha Valentine of Zelienople were selected for the Leadership Scholars Program at John Carroll University. The program includes an annually renewable scholarship.

To be considered for the program, students must demonstrate a desire to continue learning about leadership and meet academic requirements. The selection process is competitive and hundreds of applications are submitted every year.

KENT, Ohio — Latisha Ellison of Butler received the National President’s Citation from the Public Relations Student Society of America. She was recognized for her achievements as chapter president at Kent State University.

The citation honors Ellison’s impact on PRSSA through work in her chapter and on a national level.

She has provided chapter members many new mentoring and professional development opportunities.

Ellison is a senior public relations and marketing student. In addition to the PRSSA chapter, she has been involved in other organizations on campus, studied abroad in Florence, Italy, and was an intern at True Digital Communications, a marketing agency in Cleveland.

Ellison is a 2014 graduate of Butler High School.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Christian Alesius, a board member for the Slippery Rock University chapter of the American Marketing Association, tied for the best undergraduate paper at the South East Information Management and Operations Management Conference in North Carolina.

MARS — Seven Mars High School students were selected by solo audition to perform in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 5 Honors Chorus Festival at Westminster College.

The students are seniors McKenzie Hutchison, Meghana Jayaraman, Braeden Rawa, Chase Reck, Eva Shterengarts and Alec Strawn and sophomore Griffin Miller.
