Two hikers rescued at McConnells Mill

Rescue crews were busy Thursday afternoon at McConnells Mill State Park when two hikers were injured in separate accidents and needed to be rescued, Chief Park Ranger Bryan Moore said.

Both woman were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

In the first incident, a 58-year-old woman slipped on the North Country Trail and hit her head on a rock, causing a gash or cut.

Just as rescuers finished responding to that call, a second incident — this time on the Alpha Trail — required a second rescue. A 42-year-old woman stepped off a large rock onto the trail, turning her foot and possibly breaking a bone.

Both hikers had to be carried from the scene to ambulances in stokes baskets. The Portersville VFD, Portersville EMS, Slippery Rock VFD and Scott TWP VFD responded to the scene.
