Freeport girls win finale, 8-0

After wrapping up an undefeated section championship with a 4-3 win over Deer Lakes Monday, Freeport's girls soccer team closed the regular season with an 8-0 shutout of Derry on Tuesday.

Hannah Stokes scored twice against Derry while Lexi Dell, Jettie Gregory, Carlie Giori, Kaylin Greiser, Sarah Lipniskis and Piper Claypool each found the net once.

Zoe Fair and Jenna Manke each had two saves.

In Monday's victory, Kaylee Comperatore scored two goals, Autumn Kriebel and Lipniskis one each. Sidney Shemanski and Claypool had two assists each. Manke made 10 saves in goal.

Freeport (15-2-1) won the Section 2-AA title with an 11-0-1 record.

Karns City 13, Punxsutawney 1 — Haley Scherer scored five times as Karns City routed the host Chucks.

Chelsey Dodd added two goals while five other players scored one apiece — Kendall Collwell, Mackenzie Claypoole, Hunter Dittman, Hannah Knoll and McKenna Lavella.

Karns City improved to 11-4-1.

Butler 3, Canon-McMillan 2 — The Golden Tornado received two goals from Brittnie Spithaler and one from Aiden Trettel in this Monday night game. Liz Simms had a pair of assists.

Butler (10-7) closes the regular season Wednesday night, hosting Penn Hills.

Girls Tennis

Butler's doubles team of Teddi Isherwood and Reagan Sommariva lost in the Section 2-AAA final at North Allegheny High School on Wednesday, falling to Pine-Richland's Melissa Vizcardo and Alyssa Sarver in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Isherwood and Sommariva's run in the section tournament earned them a spot in the WPIAL tournament, which begins Thursday.

Volleyball

Josey Terwilliger had 10 kills and Olivia Boocks and Kylee Eaton each added eight kills to lead A-C Valley to a 25-15, 25-13, 25-22 win over Redbank Valley.

Boocks also had 18 digs and Syd Rankin 18 assists for A-C Valley.

Union 3, Moniteau 0 — Frankee Remmick had 16 kills and nine digs and Hannah Atzeni had 31 assists as the Damsels swept the Warriors 25-7, 25-15, 25-18.

Brynn Davis pitched in eight kills and Marli Hawk had 13 digs.

No stats were available from Moniteau.

Meadville 3, Slippery Rock 1 — Missing two starters, the Rockets got 14 digs from Amya Altman and 12 digs from Cheyenne Hindman in a 25-15, 21-25, 18-25, 10-25 loss to the Bulldogs.

Morgan Malinski had 17 assists and Annika Peale seven kills.

Knoch 3, Hampton 2 — Sarah Armahizer had 21 kills and Hannah Rowe added 18 kills in the Knights' 26-28, 25-7, 23-25, 25-22, 15-8 comeback win.

Kerrie Fitzpatrick pitched in 20 service points for Knoch (15-0, 12-0).

Cross Country

Slippery Rock's boys defeated Greenville, 24-33, with Kenneth Bickel leading the Rockets with a second-place effort.

Harley Pflugh won the girls' race, but Greenville topped the Rockets, 20-41.
