County golfers join PIAA play

Slippery Rock's Ryan Hinchberger (11) goes on the attack Monday night in a soccer game against Kennedy Catholic. Hinchberger scored two goals in the Rockets' 6-2 win.

The Butler County area will be well-represented at the PIAA Golf Championships.

Six local golfers advanced to the final stage thanks to their respective efforts at the Western Regional at Tom's Run Golf Course Monday afternoon.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic sophomore Madie Smithco finished tied for second out of 21 Class AA girl golfers, carding a 77 to move on.

A-C Valley's Ellie Thompson shot a 94 and claimed the 11th and final transfer spot.

In Class AA boys, CWNC's Tre Bartony shot a 77 and tied for third place out of 42 competitors.

Moniteau's Weston Kimmey managed an 85, tying for 20th to advance.

Seneca Valley's Mark McNulty had a 79, finishing 12th out of 20 Class AAA boys.

In Class AAA girls, Mars' Natalie Welsh earned the sixth and last berth to states by carding an 80.

Par was 72.

The state championships will use a 36-hole format and are scheduled next Monday and Tuesday at Heritage Hills Resort in York.

Tennis

The Butler girls doubles team of Teddi Isherwood and Reagan Sommariva will play for a WPIAL Class AAA title Tuesday afternoon after winning three matches Monday at North Allegheny.

Isherwood and Sommariva downed Moon's tandem of Sam Vachino and Ella Patten in the first round, 10-1.

In the second round, they rolled to another 10-1 victory over Pine-Richland's Katherine Stencil and Abby Nardulli.

In the semifinals, Isherwood and Sommariva beat the Mars doubles team of Amelia Haley and Emily Ivory, 6-2, 7-5 to punch their ticket to the finals.

Girls Volleyball

Emily Hegedus had 11 kills as Karns City swept Moniteau, 25-20, 25-13, 25-20.

Livia Andreassi had six kills and four blocks and Alyssa Stitt added 25 assists and three aces for the Gremlins.

Moniteau was led by Emma Bair, who had five kills, 11 blocks and three aces.

A-C Valley 3, Keystone 0 — Josey Terwilliger had 13 kills and nine digs as the Falcons rolled to a 25-12, 25-11, 25-5.

Kylee Eaton added 11 kills, 21 points and five aces for A-C Valley.

Boys Soccer

Tate Mohney scored five goals and added three assists as Butler blanked Penn Hills, 12-0.

Luca Fusca had two goals for the Golden Tornado (12-5), Justin Stewart and Alec Livermore both had a goal and two assists.

Peyton Seibert tallied a pair of assists and Adam Blose, Remy Pardo and Bryce Schoettker each scored once.

Slippery Rock 6, Kennedy Catholic 2 — Ryan Hinchberger scored a pair of goals to lead the Rockets (12-5) to this rout.

Ryan Davey, James Gallagher, Ian Balquist and Dylan Weber also scored for Slippery Rock.
