Knoch freshman claims Class AA girls tennis title

Knoch freshman Laura Greb beat Katherine Marks of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to win the WPIAL Class AA girls singles tennis championship Friday afternoon at North Allegheny High School.

Greb cruised to the final, beating Alexandria Friedlander of Winchester Thurston, 10-0, in the first round.

She then beat Devyn Campbell of Beaver in the quarterfinals, 10-3.

In the semifinals, Greb also won by straight sets with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over her Knoch teammate, Brooke Bauer.

Bauer, also a freshman, won the consolation match to give Knoch two of the top three finishers in WPIAL Class AA.

Greb and Bauer both move on to the PIAA Class AA girls tennis championships, which will be held Nov. 3 and 4 at the Hershey Racquet Club.
