KC defuses Rockets

Gremlin girls soccer team beats Slippery Rock

Hannah Knoll scored a pair of goals as the Karns City girls soccer team beat Slippery Rock, 4-1, on the road Thursday night.

Hunter Dittman and Brooke Stahlman also found the net for the Gremlins (10-3-1).

Slippery Rock's lone goal came off the foot of Kayla Daugherty.

Knoch 4, North Hills 3 — Lindsie Galbreath tallied three goals and an assist for the playoff-bound Knights (11-7) in this non-section contest.

Lindsey Fanton added a score, Sarah Vasas had two assists, Shiann Thomas one helper and Bailey Gizienski made four saves in net.

Golf

Both Butler and Mars fell short in their attempt to advance to the girls' state team championship.

In the WPIAL Class AAA final at Cedarbrook Golf Course, Butler shot 373 and the Planets totaled 385. Only champion North Allegheny (315) advances to states.

Butler was led by Hannah Folk's 82. Mars' Natalie Welsh carded a 75.

In the boys' final, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic received a 72 from Tre Bartony and a 73 from Madie Smithco, but the Trojans' 425 could not dethrone Sewickley Academy (406), which won its fifth straight district title.

Boys Soccer

Karns City 5, DuBois Central Catholic 3 — Nate Rondinelli scored twice and Dakota King, Austin Rumbaugh and Clay Garing also scored to lead the Gremlins (10-6).

Hickory 2, Slippery Rock 1 — James Gallagher scored the only goal for the Rockets (10-5, 5-3).

Girls Volleyball

Sarah Armahizer dominated with 17 kills as Knoch rolled to a 25-11, 25-13, 25-6 win over Blackhawk.

Kennedy Christy added 29 service points and six kills. Carly Bozzo also had 20 digs for the Knights (14-0, 11-0).

North Allegheny 3, Butler 0 — The Golden Tornado were swept by visiting North Allegheny, 25-15, 25-20 and 25-16.

Butler (6-6, 3-6) received eight kills and six digs from Maria Lucas and six kills and seven digs from Tabitha Walker.

Cranberry 3, Union 0 — Frankee Remmick had 11 kills and Hannah Atzeni added 19 assists, but the Damsels fell 25-21, 25-14, 25-15.

Bryn Davis added six kills and eight digs for Union.

Keystone 3, Karns City 0 — Emily Hegedus had nine kills and Alyssa Stitt 18 assists for the Gremlins in a 25-19, 25-20, 25-21 loss.

Freeport 3, Derry Area 0 — Ally DeJidas had 11 kills as the Yellowjackets won 25-15, 25-21, 25-23 on senior night.

Claire Crytzer added 25 service points and three aces, Lauren Lampus eight kills and Hannah Mason five kills and four blocks.

Haley Graham also had seven kills and three blocks for Freeport (14-2, 11-0).
