11:12 p.m. Saturday — Part of Interstate 80 in Mercer County was closed in both directions for about nine hours while emergency crews cleared the scene of an accident involving two tractor-trailers.

The accident happened in the westbound lanes near the 22-mile marker. Police say the driver of a westbound tractor-trailer lost control and drove off the left side of the road and jackknifed while trying to correct course. A second tractor-trailer then approached the disabled vehicle at a high speed and was unable to brake and avoid a crash.

The crash injured the driver of the first truck, an unidentified person from Bridgeport, Conn. That driver was flown from the scene to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

The second truck continued westbound after the crash and came to rest on the eastbound part of the interstate. Traffic was detoured onto routes 173 and 208 through Grove City during the closure.
