Williams shines again for Mars

Planet forward scores pair of goals in win

Maggie Williams continued her torrid scoring pace with a pair of goals for Mars' girls soccer team in Thursday's 2-0 win at Gateway.

Assists went to Caroline Wroblewski and Taylor Hamlett as the Planets (11-1, 8-0) remained undefeated in Section 1-AAA.

Girls Volleyball

Bethany Nulph had 24 service points and eight kills as Knoch gave up a combined eight points in a sweep of Lincoln Park.

Abby Pospisil added 25 points and Sarah Armahizer tallied 17 kills for the Knights (12-0, 9-0).

Butler 3, Shaler 2 — Tabitha Walker had 17 kills and 12 digs as the Golden Tornado won a thriller, 23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 15-10.

Maria Lucas added eight kills, 47 digs and 14 assists and Hope Fiorina pitched in 30 digs for Butler (5-4, 3-4).

Heidi Gross also had five kills.

Slippery Rock 3, Oil City 0 — Madison Chechak had 12 kills and Annika Peale added eight kills as the Rockets earned a 25-19, 25-6, 25-13 sweep.

Morgan Malinski added 31 assists and Taylor Balint added nine aces for Slippery Rock (5-7).

A-C Valley 3, Venango Catholic 0 — Olivia Boocks had eight kills and Emily Wetzel nine assists to pace the Falcons in a 25-3, 25-3, 25-9 rout.

Clarion 3, Union 0 — Frankee Remmick had nine kills and seven digs, but the Damsels were swept 25-3, 25-19, 25-22.

Hannah Atzeni added 16 assists for the Union.

Moniteau 3, Forest Area 0 — Cambrie Campbell's six kills and four aces led Moniteau to this sweep. Emma Bair had five blocks and Logan Barnhart 13 assists for the Warriors.

North Clarion 3, Karns City 2 — After battling back from a two-set deficit, the Gremlins fell 15-10 in a fifth and deciding set to the Wolves.

Alyssa Stitt had 34 assists in the loss, Emily Hegedus dropped nine kills, Livia Andreassi seven kills and Makayla Waltman and Rayna Miller six kills apiece.

Boys Soccer

Karns City's Nolan Riley scored on a direct kick, but the Gremlins (9-6) dropped a 4-1 decision to Mercer.

Boys Golf

Five Seneca Valley golfers carded sub-40 scores, but the Raiders placed second at their own invitational at Cranberry Highlands.

SV shot 186 as a team while Central Catholic won the four-team event with 180.

Paul Lopiccolo led SV with a 34, Zach Gehm added a 37, Jacob Marquardt and Mark McNulty both had 38 and Zach Brown a 39.

Fox Chapel (192) and Sewickley Academy (202) also competed at the event.
