Romanchak keys win

Freeport QB passes for 2 TDs, runs for another

Austin Romanchak threw a pair of touchdown passes and also rushed for a score as the Freeport football team rolled to a 44-0 win at Burrell Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Yellowjackets (4-1, 3-0) and their junior quarterback got rolling.

Romanchak found Jake Sarver for a 53-yard strike to put Freeport on the board in the second quarter.

He followed that up with a 33-yard connection to Luke Kennedy for a 14-0 lead.

Romanchak made it 28-0 later with a 35-yard scamper for a touchdown.

Conor Selinger also had a pair of 3-yard touchdown runs around the Romanchak touchdown run and Miles Troup got into the act with a 58-yard scoring run.

The Freeport special teams rounded out the scoring with a safety.

Redbank Valley 55, Union/A-C Valley 13 — Lucas Bowser tossed a pair of touchdown passes for the Falcon Knights, but the Bulldog rushing tandem of Clint Thurston and Brock Barrett was too much for Union/A-C Valley to overcome.

Bowser found Brendan Price for a 13-yard touchdown pass to close the Redbank Valley lead to 14-7.

The Bulldogs, though, returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdowns.

Union/A-C Valley closed again to 28-13 when Bowser hit Quintin Weaver for a 36-yard score, but that was as close as the Falcon Knights would get.

Thurston rushed for 152 yards and four touchdowns while Barrett added 153 yards and two scores for Redbank Valley.

CW North Catholic 42, Avonworth 21 — The Tropjans (4-2) jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the second quarter and cruised to the win.

Five different Trojans scored touchdowns. Jon Meinert scored on runs of 5 and 6-yard runs. Zach Rocco threw touchdown passes of 10 yards to Rashod Allen, five yards to Ryan Maziarz and 22 yards to Nikhai Hill-Green.

Cameron Brauch returned a fumble 92 yards for the other CWNC touchdown.

Clarion 41, Moniteau 7 — The Warriors (2-3, 1-2) scored first, but the unbeaten Bobcats (5-0, 3-0) took control from there.

Logan Minich had 13 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown while Sam Minich had seven carries for 84 yards and a TD. Clarion pulled even at 7-7 when Spencer Miller tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Camden Boggess.

Union (N.C.) 28, Summit Academy 14 — The visiting Knights (1-4) took a 14-8 lead in the first quarter, but could not score again.

Te'Shon Tysinger scored on a 58-yard run for Summit and Brian Colbert hauled in a 61-yard touchdown pass from Delano Brown.

Michael Flowers scored Union's final three touchdowns, pulling in a pair of 19-yard TD passes from Evan Pinkerton and adding a 3-yard scoring run.
