MARS — Mars High School Marching Band took first place in Class AAA competition at the Norwin Marching Band Festival in North Huntingdon.
The band earned high honors for music and general effect and also placed third overall at the festival.
The band’s 2017-18 show, “Beethoven: Artistry in Motion,” features several of Ludwig van Beethoven’s greatest hits.

EVANS CITY — Corbin Edge, 13, of Evans City was selected as a 2017 youth ambassador of the Western Pennsylvania chapter of the American Diabetes Association.
Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a 1-year-old, Corbin’s life goal is to help find a cure for diabetes.
He and his family have raised $15,000 for the American Diabetes Association. His most recent fundraiser was an auction of 75 donated baskets at the Evans City Oktoberfest. He also shared his story with 120 guests at the Drive Away Golf Classic at Allegheny County Club and with corporate staff of American Natural Gas Station.
Corbin is preparing for two events in Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes on Oct. 7 and the Pittsburgh Diabetes Expo on Nov. 4. For more information, call ADA at 412-824-1181.
