Knoch tennis moves on

Beats Beaver, 4-1; Knights also win in volleyball

Knoch singles players Laura Greb, Brooke Bauer and Emma West each won their singles matches as the Knights beat Beaver 4-1 in the WPIAL Class AA team tennis playoffs.

The Knights (15-1) will play either Neshannock or Vincentian Academy in the semifinals Monday.

Girls Volleyball

Maria Lucas totaled 10 kills and seven digs in Butler's sweep of host Penn Hills.

Tabitha Walker added seven kills and 14 digs for the Golden Tornado (4-4), who dropped the Indians by scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-12.

Freeport 3, Apollo-Ridge 0 — The Yellowjackets crushed the Vikings by a combined score of 75-12.

Tori Radvan, Madeline Clark and Haley Graham each had five aces, with Clark adding 10 assists and Graham five kills.

Isabella Russo had five kills and two blocks for Freeport (10-1, 7-0).

Clarion 3, Moniteau 0 — The Warriors dropped this KSAC match by scores of 25-12, 25-13, 25-12. No other details were available.

Knoch 3, Mars 1 — The Knights rebounded from a loss in the second set to drop the Planets.

Kennedy Christy tallied 13 service points and eight kills and Sarah Armahizer 10 kills for Knoch (9-0, 7-0), which won by scores of 25-6, 20-25, 25-22, 25-14.

Boys Soccer

Nate Rondinelli scored a goal and added an assist as Karns City scored a pair of goals in the second half to derail Punxsutawney, 2-1.

Pine-Richland 1, Butler 0 — The Golden Tornado fell to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in section play.

Freeport 9, Valley 2 — Bryce Hanby led the Yellowjacket onslaught with five goals. Hunter Hardin added two goals and two assists.

Adam Kvarta tallied three assists for Freeport (9-2, 7-2).

Slippery Rock 5, Sharpsville 3 — Ryan Davey scored three goals as the Rockets (8-3, 5-1) bounced back from a 2-1, double-overtime loss to Hickory Tuesday with this win.

Girls Soccer

Lindsie Galbreath's goal in the first half was enough for Knoch in a 1-0 victory at Slippery Rock.

Shiann Thomas had an assist while Becca Stockert and Bailey Gizienski both played in net for the Knights (9-3).

Julia Hart managed 17 saves for the Rockets (7-5).

Karns City 9, Clarion 0 — Haley Scherer scored three goals and added an assist for the Gremlins (7-3-1).

Freeport 6, Burrell 2 — Sarah Lipniskis and Kaylee Comperatore both netted 2 goals for the Yellowjackets (10-2, 7-0) in this victory on Wednesday.

Boys Golf

Butler's Tarik Taoufik earned medalist honors with a 41 as Butler defeated Knoch, 213-243, at Butler Country Club.
