Penn shoots 34 as Freeport golfers net win

Morgan Penn shot a 34 — seven pars and two birdies — for a Freeport golf season-low score and career low for Penn as the Yellowjackets defeated Jeannette, 206-278, Wednesday.

It was the second consecutive day Penn shot a career low. He fired a 35 Tuesday.

David Gaspersic also had a strong day for the Yellowjackets (10-3, 8-2) with a 38.

Pine-Richland 184, Seneca Valley 189 — Adam Bushee shot a 35 to lead four Raiders' golfers with sub-40 scores, but Seneca Valley (9-2, 7-2) fell by five strokes.

Girls Soccer

Four Mars players scored a goal and Maggie Williams had three assists, all on corner kicks, as the Planets blanked Franklin Regional 4-0.

It's the fifth consecutive shutout for Mars (6-0, 4-0).

The Planets have given up just two goals all season.

Hampton 3, Knoch 2 (2OT) — Lindsie Galbreath scored two goals, the second with 18 minutes remaining that forced overtime, but the Knights (5-3) fell on a goal with a little more that two minutes remaining in the second OT.

Boys Soccer

Ryan Davey scored a pair of goals to lift Slippery Rock to a 3-1 win over Commodore Perry.

Ian Balquist scored the other goal for the Rockets (6-2, 3-0).

Girls Golf

Butler's Hannah Folk and Maggie Feczko qualified for the WPIAL girls golf finals through Wednesday's section qualifier at Conley's Resort.

Folk shot an 84 and Feczko carded an 88. The WPIAL individual Finals are Oct. 4 at Diamond Run Golf Club.

Volleyball

Union rallied from two sets down to beat Moniteau 18-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-9, 15-11.

Frankee Remmick had a huge night for the Damsels with 18 kills and Bryn Davis added 12 kills.

Hannah Atzeni also came up big for Union with 38 assists and seven aces.

Marli Hawk added 17 digs.

Emma Bair had 25 kills for the Warriors.

Union fell to Keystone late Tuesday, 3-1.

Remmick had 15 kills and Davis 13 kills in that defeat.

Cranberry 3, Karns City 0 — Alyssa Stitt had four assists, Emily Hegedus three blocks and two kills in the Gremlins' 25-16, 25-12, 25-11 loss Tuesday night.

Tennis

The doubles tandem of Alex Jaksec and Christine Ciganik won their No. 2 doubles match to help Knoch to a big 3-2 win over Indiana.

The victory gave the Knights their second-consecutive undefeated section championship.

Brooke Bauer and Emma West won their singles matches for Knoch, which will open the WPIAL playoffs next week.

Butler 5, Seneca Valley 0 — With the sweep, the Golden Tornado clinched a WPIAL playoff spot.

No. 1 singles player Teddi Isherwood got things going for the Golden Tornado (9-2, 6-2) with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
