Suspect charged in peeping case

Man, 69, free on $5,000 bail

BUTLER TWP — An alleged “peeping Tom” is accused of looking into the windows of a woman's house on the 400 block of Meridian Road.

Butler Township police believe 69-year-old Ronald R. Worst on three different nights in August and September had peered into the neighbor's home.

The alleged victim's surveillance system, police said, helped lead to his arrest last week.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Friday arraigned Worst on charges of stalking and three counts of loitering or prowling at night. He is free on $5,000 bail.

The woman on Aug. 11 initially reported to police that someone had been in her house. She also discovered upon returning home that her doors had been unlocked.

She told officers that due to her concern she changed her locks and installed a surveillance system at her home, according to court documents.

On Sept. 8, she reported seeing a man, who she believed was Worst, walking outside her house. Police reviewed the woman's surveillance footage but the video was “not clear enough” to identify the defendant, documents said.

The security camera, however, subsequently captured images of Worst on Sept. 11 and 13 walking around the outside of the home.

On at least one of those nights, police said, he “can be seen looking in the windows of the residence.”

The woman told officers that she was afraid and that she “could no longer focus and was always on edge,'' according to a police affidavit.

Police on Friday interviewed Worst at the station and showed him one still photograph taken from his neighbor's surveillance system. He acknowledged the photograph was of him, police said, and he admitted being at the woman's home on Sept. 8, 11 and 13.

“He was not able to give a good reason as to why” he was there, documents said.

His preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 12. Worst did not immediately return a telephone call Tuesday.
