1 DUI arrest leads to 2 others

State police scored a kind of DUI trifecta Sunday.

While on their way to the hospital to give one suspected drunken driver in Slippery Rock Township a blood test, troopers came upon a second one in Center Township.

Later, police said, a teenager showed up intoxicated at Butler Memorial Hospital in Butler Township to pick up the first suspect. That was arrest No. 3.

The unusual night began shortly after midnight when police say they pulled over Terel D. Lewis, 18, of Monroeville, Allegheny County, for a traffic violation on Harmony Road in Slippery Rock Township.

Troopers also found Lewis with suspected marijuana and they believed he was under the influence of a controlled substance, according to a police report.

His two passengers — Dylan R. Pierce, 18, of Monroeville and an 18-year-old man from Pitcairn, Allegheny County — were caught with alcohol, police said. They both also appeared impaired.

Lewis was arrested for suspicion of DUI. The parents of the passengers were notified and police advised the teens not to drive because of their conditions.

The troopers placed Lewis in their patrol car and headed to the Butler hospital for a blood test. But before they got there, they spotted an erratic driver on Route 8 in Center Township.

That driver, David Robinette, 27, of Arkansas, was pulled over, police said, and he soon was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police arrived at the hospital with both suspects. About 2:30 a.m., police said, Pierce showed up there, presumably to give Lewis a ride home.

Investigators believe Pierce, still under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance, had driven to the hospital from Slippery Rock.

Police said charges against all three DUI suspects are pending lab results.
