Man arrested for felony assault

An Allegheny County man was arrested on felony assault and other charges after he allegedly choked his girlfriend during a domestic dispute at her home at the Old Plank Road.

Ewari W. Ellis, 34, of Coraopolis was placed in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail following his arraignment.

Police spoke to the alleged victim at a neighbor's home where she fled after the assault, according to court documents. She told officers that she believed the defendant was still at her apartment.

But when they checked the apartment, police found Ellis was gone. In a bedroom, they found the couple's 15-month-old child unharmed in a crib.

Stefanowicz recounted that the defendant had punched her in the nose three times and choked her with both of his hands, documents said. She managed to get away.

At 5 a.m., police found Ellis walking on Litman Road. He was carrying two allegedly stolen cell phones — one belonging to Stefanowicz and the other to a Coraopolis man.

A full report will appear in the Butler Eagle.
